Your Jewel Box

The Most Unfinished

What’s the most unfinished stone in everyone’s jewel box? It’s the need to be right, is it not? I’m right, aren’t I? It is the need to be right, right?

Imagine how hard it was to be a communist in the 1950’s. It’s okay to be a lefty, right?

Dressed in his three belled hat, little pants, and stripped shirt, the jester appeared before the King.

The King adjusted his golden crown and shifted his butt on his thrown.

“I’m bored!” he said. “Make me laugh.”

The Jester laughed. “Don’t let it get stuck in your craw.”

“What?”

“I said, tuck in you’re jaw.”

What!?”

The Jester shouted. “It’s your mother in law. Mother in law!”

The King was hard of hearing. “Oh yes. Ha, ha. My mother in law. Now say something funny or I’ll have your head.”

The Jester thought for a short moment, and then jumped, clicked his heels and laughed and smiled. “I’m kidding.”

“What?”

“I said, I’m kidding.”

“What?” cried the King.

“I said,” shouted the Jester, “I’m kidding!”

“What?!” shouted the King.

“I’m kidding! I’m kidding. I’m kidding!” wailed the Jester.

“Off with his head,” screamed the King. “You can’t be King. I’m King!”

The need to be right comes from our parents making us wrong.

As kids, we constantly heard “No!” Kids are curious and make a mess with you know  what, so everyone heard a lot of “you’re wrongs.” These are unfinished situations.

How do we make them right?

You can’t because you weren’t wrong. Your parents and teachers weren’t wrong either but perpetuated a chain of violence from their parents and teachers which says curiosity is wrong. It’s not wrong. Making messes is natural. It’s human. Right?

Now, however, you’re a grown up. You have to clean up after yourself.

Not really. I’m kidding.
